Who Am I?

Hello! I'm Rose, and I recently graduated from Columbia University with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. I have a passion for computer science and decided to pursue electrical engineering through academics, complementing it with computer science via personal projects and internships. I strongly believe in interdisciplinary knowledge, which allows me to approach problems from a holistic perspective.

After graduation, I dedicated my time to working on projects that unveiled a newfound interest in finance. I'm now considering pursuing a master's degree in financial engineering to further explore this passion. I spend my days working on projects, reading machine learning textbooks, studying probability, building video game, exploring computer science, and building upon other engineering principles.

On the creative side, I've engaged in various art forms, including mural painting, photography, sewing, graphic design, and video editing.

My non-creative hobbies include fitness and learning how to fly. I've already accumulated several hours of both ground and flying time toward my private pilot's license and am determined to complete it once circumstances allow.

I've created this page as a way to share my diverse interests with the world. I hope you enjoy exploring my journey!

Experience

HRL Laboratories Intern | May 2022 - Nov 2022

  • Developed Python simulation program that maps the footprint of a radar beam projected from a plane during flight.
  • Designed experiment to verify the accuracy of the program by transmitting signals and measuring the received signal power at various locations.
  • Simulation tool was used to validate radar data collected during flight tests of the prototype, potentially saving hours of expensive trial runs required to collect such data.
  • Designed experiment to replicate occlusion phenomena in radars—when larger objects block or obscure smaller objects.
  • Collected radar data was used to test algorithms designed to detect and compensate for occlusion phenomena, the results of which helped secure additional funding for the research project.
  • Crafted custom wires for a prototype, ensuring sturdiness and organization to enhance performance and maintain a neat setup.
  • Wrote initialization scripts in C for an FPGA used in a prototype, involving a detailed analysis of the user manual to identify and configure the relevant registers for proper functionality.

NASA Glenn Research Center Intern | Aug 2021 - Jan 2022

  • Developed user-friendly GUI for NASA’s Glenn-HT code, a high-performance computational fluid dynamics softwarefor simulating heat transfer in jet engine components.
  • Programmed efficient code in C# for interpreting, processing, and writing simulation files.
  • Utilized Visual Studio Community for implementing unit testing to ensure reliability and improve performance.
  • Maintained well-organized comments to enhance code readability and adhered to version control practices.
